Brewers 8, Reds 4: Rickie Weeks and Cody Ransom each hit a two-run homer and Zack Greinke was strong over six innings as visiting Milwaukee avoided a three-game sweep at Cincinnati.
Aramis Ramirez had two RBIs and Corey Hart tripled, scored twice and drove in a run for the Brewers, who snapped a four-game slide.
Weeks started a tough day for Cincinnati right-hander Homer Bailey in the second inning, driving a 2-1 fastball out to straightaway center field. It was his sixth homer of the season and the first since May 25.
The teams traded runs in the third inning before Ransom gave the Brewers a 5-1 edge in the fourth, sending his sixth homer out to left with Hart on base.
Greinke (9-2) allowed two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three. The right-hander, who is becoming the subject of trade rumors with Milwaukee struggling, has not lost since May 26.
Bailey (5-6) suffered his second consecutive loss, charged with five runs - four earned - and seven hits in four-plus innings.
Ryan Ludwick hit a pair of solo home runs and Miguel Cairo chipped in an RBI groundout for the Reds.
Milwaukee tacked on three runs in the ninth to put it away.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brewers LF Ryan Braun got the day off after being hit in the elbow by a pitch Tuesday night. Braun could not bend the arm before the game and is questionable for Friday’s series opener against Arizona. … Reds 2B Brandon Phillips left Wednesday’s game after taking a forearm to the head from Ramirez on an attempted steal. … Milwaukee had three players thrown out attempting to steal by Cincinnati C Devin Mesoraco.
