Mets 9, Dodgers 0: R.A. Dickey won his 10th straight decision and Daniel Murphy matched his career high with five RBIs as visiting New York routed Los Angeles in the opener of the three-game series.
Dickey struck out 10 and allowed only three hits and one walk in eight innings as the Mets won their third straight contest and handed Los Angeles its sixth consecutive defeat and first shutout at home.
The knuckleballer became the first 12-game winner in the majors this season and reached double digits in strikeouts for the fifth time. Dickey (12-1) threw 81 of his 116 pitches for strikes.
Murphy hit a two-run double in the fifth to provide New York with a five-run lead and then put the game out of reach with a three-run homer in the seventh.
Ruben Tejada had four hits, including a run-scoring single in the seventh that made it 9-0.
The Mets took a 2-0 lead on David Wright’s run-scoring single off Aaron Harang (5-5) and a sacrifice fly by Ike Davis in the second. Lucas Duda had a run-scoring single in the third prior to Murphy’s double.
Harang had a third-inning fly ball single for Los Angeles’ only hit off Dickey over the first six innings.
A.J. Ellis singled in the seventh and Tony Gwynn Jr. doubled in the eighth.
Harang allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Murphy also had a five-RBI contest against the Washington Nationals in 2009. … Los Angeles has lost 10 of 11 games and been shut out in four of the past five games. … New York had 14 hits. … The Dodgers have at least tentatively decided not to place OF Andre Ethier (oblique) on the disabled list after he was injured Wednesday.
