Mets 5, Phillies 0: David Wright went 3-for-5 with a home run in his return to the lineup after missing three games with a fractured right pinky and Lucas Duda added a two-run homer in support of Jon Niese to lead the Mets to a second consecutive win at Philadelphia.
The Mets contemplated sending Wright to the disabled list if he couldn't return Saturday, but he didn't take long to put to rest any concerns about the broken finger. He blasted a solo home run to center with two outs in the first against Phillies starter Vance Worley and later added two singles and scored another run.
Duda added his third homer, a two-run shot off Worley with two outs in the fourth, to cap a three-run inning.
That was more than enough for Niese (2-0), who has won his first starts since signing a five-year, $25.5 million extension. He allowed five hits and walked one in 6 2/3 innings, striking out five.
Bobby Parnell and Jon Rauch combined to finish off the six-hit shutout for the Mets. All six Phillies hits were singles.
Worley (0-1) allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings. He struck out five but walked four. The right-hander has lost three straight decisions dating to last season. He won 11 of his first 12 decisions in 2011.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mets kept pace with National League East leader Washington, which maintained a half-game lead with a 4-1 victory over Cincinnati. … The Phillies have scored four runs or fewer in seven of their eight games and two or fewer five times. … Niese earned his first win at Citizens Bank Park since April 30, 2010. He was 0-3 with a 10.05 ERA in three starts there last season.
