Astros 3, Braves 2: Justin Maxwell recorded his second career multi-homer game and collected a career-high four hits as Houston spoiled Paul Maholm's debut with Atlanta by posting a rare road victory.
After jumping on a fastball for a two-run shot in the fourth inning, Maxwell gave the Astros a 3-2 lead by leading off the seventh in impressive fashion. Maxwell crushed a curveball from Maholm (9-7) well over the wall in left field for his 12th homer of the season.
The power display enabled Houston to win for only the fourth time in 33 contests while snapping a 10-game road skid. Atlanta fell for only the second time in 11 outings and fifth in 20 against the Astros.
Maxwell's homers allowed Lucas Harrell (9-7) to pick up his second straight victory. Harrell issued five walks - including three straight in the sixth inning, which preceded Dan Uggla tying the game at 2-2 with a two-run single to shallow left field.
Fernando Rodriguez retired all three batters in the seventh before Wesley Wright struck out a pair in 1 1/3 innings. Wilton Lopez got the final two outs for his first save this season and second career.
Acquired from the Chicago Cubs on Monday, Maholm saw his five-game winning streak come to an end. He permitted three runs on six hits in seven innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: While playing with Washington, Maxwell belted a pair of homers against the then-Florida Marlins on Sept. 12, 2009. ... Maholm fell to 12-7 in his career versus Houston. McCullers was the 41st overall pick in the 2012 supplemental draft.
