Royals 5, Yankees 1: Billy Butler drove in three runs and Felipe Paulino tossed six scoreless innings in his season debut as Kansas City posted its second home win of the season.
Alex Gordon recorded four hits and scored twice for the Royals, who improved to 2-11 at Kauffman Stadium.
Butler got Kansas City on the board with a two-run double in the first inning and made it 3-0 in the fifth with an RBI double. The Royals plated two more runs an inning later on Jarrod Dyson's sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Gordon.
Paulino (1-0) limited the Yankees to four hits and two walks while striking out six. The right-hander had been on the disabled list with tightness in his forearm.
Hiroki Kuroda (2-4) remained winless on the road after surrendering three runs - two earned - and six hits over 4 1/3 innings. Kuroda, who walked three, is 0-3 away from Yankee Stadium.
Russell Martin went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for New York, which has lost four of five.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees captain Derek Jeter, who went 6-for-10 over the first two games of the series, was 0-for-4 on Saturday. ... New York's Curtis Granderson had two hits, giving him 999 for his career. ... Gordon has registered eight multi-hit peformances this season.
