Red Sox 8, Yankees 6: Rookie Pedro Ciriaco tripled home the go-ahead run on a misplayed fly ball in the ninth inning and visiting Boston beat New York for only the second time in eight meetings.
Adrian Gonzalez homered among his three hits and drove in four runs as the Red Sox won for the second time in eight games despite blowing a five-run lead.
Andrew Miller (3-1) retired the only batter he faced before Alfredo Aceves pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 22nd save.
Ciriaco delivered the decisive hit off closer Rafael Soriano (2-1) that Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson misplayed and watched go over his head to score Jacoby Ellsbury with the go-ahead run. Dustin Pedroia followed with a sacrifice fly for an 8-6 lead.
Mark Teixeira tied it in the eighth inning with a two-run blast off reliever Vicente Padilla. Jayson Nix added a two-run homer and Chris Stewart had a solo blast for New York.
Red Sox starter Jon Lester was solid with the exception of one inning, giving up four runs on four hits in six frames. He struck out six to give him 1,000 for his career.
Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia was roughed up for a season-high six runs on eight hits in six innings but remained unbeaten in his last six starts.
The start of the game was delayed by rain for 2 hours, 4 minutes.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ciriaco is 10-for-18 against New York this season. ... The Yankees have scored at least five runs in eighth straight games against the Red Sox. It's the longest such streak for New York against Boston since a 19-game stretch in 1931-32. ... Lester became the eighth Boston pitcher to amass 1,000 strikeouts. ... Yankees RF Nick Swisher missed his seventh straight game with a strained left hip flexor. ... Red Sox LF Carl Crawford sat out as part of the team's plan to play him no more than four straight games at a time. Crawford hit his first homer Friday to snap an 8-for-18 skid. ... Stewart's third-inning blast extended New York's homer streak at Yankee Stadium to 16 games. It was the team's 157th of the season, breaking the franchise mark for the most in the first 100 games of a season. ... Will Middlebrooks extended his hitting streak to five games. ... Nix's homer was his third in 16 career at-bats against Lester.
