Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter homered and drove in three runs apiece as the New York Yankees sent visiting Seattle to its 16th consecutive loss with a 10-3 rout of the Mariners on Monday night.
Freddy Garcia (9-7) limited Seattle to three runs on eight hits over 7 2/3 innings to help the Yankees become the second American League team to reach 60 wins this season.
Mariners starter Jason Vargas (6-9) lost his fourth straight start, getting pummeled for eight runs – four earned – on seven hits in four innings to drop to 0-3 lifetime against New York.
Teixeira hit a two-run blast in the first inning for his 27th homer, tying Curtis Granderson for the team lead. His RBI single capped a five-run fourth inning to extend New York's lead to 8-1.
Jeter hit a solo homer in the third and added an RBI triple in the eighth. Granderson had a pair of sacrifice flies for his fourth two-RBI game in the last six.
Justin Smoak had two hits and an RBI for the Mariners, who absorbed their 12th straight defeat on the road.
