Chris Denorfia hit an inside-the-park homer and five San Diego pitchers combined on a nine-hit shutout as the visiting Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 on Thursday night.
Denorfia hit a chopper over the head of Dodgers third baseman Casey Blake in the ninth and the ball rolled down the left-field line past Scott Podsednik. Tony Gwynn Jr. scored from first and Denorfia circled the bases for his seventh homer of the season.
The Padres also scored three runs in the fourth inning to snap a streak of 20 consecutive scoreless innings. Chase Headley and Yorvit Torrealba had run-scoring singles and Gwynn hit a sacrifice fly.
Heath Bell got the last four outs for his 31st save. Bell entered with two on in the eighth and retired James Loney on an infield grounder and then struck out two in the ninth.
Kevin Correia (8-7) won for the third time in four starts with 5 2/3 innings of four-hit ball.
Joe Thatcher recorded the final out of the sixth, Ernesto Frieri pitched the seventh and Luke Gregerson got the first two outs of the eighth before giving up back-to-back singles to Ryan Theriot and Andre Ethier.
Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (9-6) gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings.
Theriot went 3-for-4 and Ethier had two hits for Los Angeles.
