Pat Burrell hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the San Francisco Giants to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday afternoon.
Buster Posey was hit by a pitch from Hong-Chih Kuo with two outs in the eighth and Burrell greeted Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton (3-3) with the dramatic homer on a full-count pitch.
Guillermo Mota (1-3) recorded the victory and retired all five hitters he faced. Mota pitched the ninth because closer Brian Wilson was unavailable with back pain.
Casey Blake led off the seventh with his 11th homer of the season for the lone Los Angeles run.
Chad Billingsley blanked San Francisco on two hits over 6 2/3 innings while pitching on three days’ rest for the first time in his major-league career. He struck out five and walked two.
Giants starter Barry Zito allowed one run and three hits in seven innings, striking out six.
