Hanley Ramirez hit two homers and drove in four runs while starter Josh Johnson gave Florida six strong innings as the Marlins defeated the Washington Nationals 9-3 Sunday afternoon.
Ramirez’s three-run homer off Washington starter John Lannan (1-2) in the fourth gave Florida (13-12) the lead for good at 4-2. He added a solo homer in the sixth off Miguel Batista and finished 3-for-5 as the Marlins won their second straight game.
Johnson (3-1) gave up two runs on three hits in six innings, striking out eight and walking four.
The Marlins took two of three against the Nationals to win a series after losing three in a row. Extra-base hits also helped on this day as Florida got seven of them, including pinch-hitter Mike Lamb’s two-run double in the eighth.
Washington (13-12) took a 2-0 lead in the second when Ian Desmond got an RBI double, and Lannan added a run-scoring groundout. But Johnson and the Florida bullpen then shut the Nationals down.
Lannan’s early-season problems continued as he gave up six runs on nine hits in just five innings. The left-hander’s ERA moved up to 6.34.
The Nationals scored only four runs in the last two games of this series.
