Jason Giambi went 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs to help Ubaldo Jimenez to his league-high 15th win in the Colorado Rockies’ 4-2 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.
Brad Hawpe and Miguel Olivo added RBIs for the Rockies, who swept the three-game set and have won six of their last seven.
Jimenez (15-1) rediscovered his form after suffering through his worst start of the season on Saturday when he was charged with seven runs against San Francisco. The 26-year-old right-hander limited the Cardinals to just a run on three hits over eight innings in this one. He struck out six against two walks.
After coming from behind to win in their final at-bats in the last two games, the Rockies jumped out to an early lead that their ace was able to protect.
Giambi and Hawpe singled in runs in the first and Olivo lifted a sacrifice fly in the third for the 3-0 advantage. Giambi added another single in the fifth to make it 4-1.
The Cardinals threatened in the ninth against closer Huston Street when Jon Jay doubled home Albert Pujols to bring the tying run to the dish. But Street induced a groundout for his third save.
Brendan Ryan drove in St. Louis’ other run as the team lost for the fifth time in seven tries.
