The Chicago Cubs got a strong outing from rookie Casey Coleman and chased St. Louis Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter after four innings to pick up a 7-3 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning when Albert Pujols hit an RBI double and came around to score when Matt Holliday reached first on a throwing error by Aramis Ramirez.
The Chicago third baseman made up for that error by smacking an RBI single in the bottom of the third to kick-off a four-run frame before adding another RBI base hit in the fourth to put the Cubs up 5-3. Blake DeWitt and Sam Fuld finished with two hits and two RBIs apiece for the Cubs.
Coleman (3-2) gave up two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking none, while Carpenter (15-9) allowed five runs on seven hits to go along with four walks.
Pujols finished the day 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and the RBI in the third.
