Garrett Jones and Lastings Milledge drove in the game’s lone runs in the eighth inning to help Brad Lincoln earn his first major-league win in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.
Andrew McCutchen had a pair of hits and scored a run for the Pirates, who took the three-game set.
Making his sixth career start, Lincoln (1-2) put himself in the win column with seven scoreless innings. The 25-year-old right-hander allowed just four hits and struck out six batters against one walk.
Joel Hanrahan bridged the gap to Octavio Dotel, who worked around a hit in the ninth for his 16th save.
The Pirates did all of their damage on two hits in the eighth. Jones doubled to deep center to plate Andy LaRoche, and Milledge later drew a bases-loaded walk.
Andrew Cashner (0-3) took the loss by allowing the two unearned runs in one-third an inning after starter Tom Gorzelanny tossed five scoreless frames.
Aramis Ramirez finished with two of Chicago’s five hits in the losing effort.
