Dan Haren tossed a complete game and the Arizona Diamondbacks finished its longest road trip of the season Thursday with a winning record after beating the Houston Astros, 6-3.
Tony Abreu had four hits and drove in a run and Kelly Johnson hit his 10th home run of the season as Arizona ended the road trip at 6-5, a marked improvement from its previous 1-5 trip.
Haren allowed three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts to improve to 4-1 on the season. He threw 81 of his 111 pitches for strikes.
Johnson led off the game with his homer and the Diamondbacks added three more off Wandy Rodriguez in the third as Justin Upton had an RBI single, Mark Reynolds had a sacrifice fly and Chris Young recorded an RBI single.
Arizona chased Rodriguez (1-4) in the fourth when Abreu’s double scored Haren for a 5-0 lead.
Houston closed within 5-2 on RBI singles by Carlos Lee and Geoff Blum in the fourth.
