Elvis Andrus had a two-run double and Josh Hamilton homered as the Texas Rangers got to Felix Hernandez early in a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday.
Hernandez (2-2) went just 4 1/3 innings, his shortest outing since throwing four innings last May 9 in a 9-6 loss to Minnesota. He allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out five and walked four.
Hernandez was chased after allowing Hamilton’s opposite-field homer and issuing consecutive walks in the fifth. Justin Smoak followed with an RBI single to make it 5-2.
Matt Harrison (1-1) threw a career-high 127 pitches over six innings in the win, allowing three runs - two earned - on seven hits, all singles.
Frank Francisco made it interesting in the ninth, walking the first two batters on nine pitches before earning his second save.
Every Ranger had a hit and the top third of the order – Andrus, Michael Young and Hamilton – each had two hits and drove in at least one run.
Jose Lopez and Milton Bradley had run-scoring singles in the third as Seattle got to within 3-2. Lopez added a run on a groundout in the eighth to cut it to 5-3.
