Vernon Wells hit one of three Toronto homers Sunday as the Blue Jays beat New York 7-3, ending the Yankees' eight-game winning streak.
Wells belted a two-run in the top of the first inning and the Jays never trailed as they won for just the second time in their last seven games. Wells also drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the seven.
Aaron Hill and John Buck added homers for the Jays. Hill finished with three hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Brett Cecil (12-7) earned his third victory of the season over the Yankees, scattering three runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out three.
Phil Hughes (16-7) was shelled for six runs on seven hits in his six innings of work.
The Yankees remained 2 1/2 games up on Tampa Bay atop the American League East standings after the Rays fell 8-7 in Baltimore.
Alex Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI in his first game since going on the 15-day disabled list last month. Brett Gardner added a pair of hits and an RBI in defeat.
