Colin Curtis hit a pinch-hit three-run homer to pace the New York Yankees to a 10-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday afternoon.
It was Curtis’ first major league home run and it came in unique circumstances. Curtis was summoned to bat after Brett Gardner was ejected for arguing a strike call during his plate appearance.
Curtis immediately belted a pitch from Scot Shields into the bullpen in right center field to break open a 6-5 game.
The Yankees also got homers from Robinson Cano and Juan Miranda. Mark Teixeira had three hits and three RBIs for New York, while Derek Jeter had three hits and scored three times.
The Yankees led 6-0 after five innings to make a winner out of Javier Vazquez (8-7) who yielded five runs on nine hits in five innings.
Joel Pineiro (10-7) took the loss, his first in his last eight decisions, after surrendering six runs and 11 hits in six innings.
Hideki Matsui and Bobby Wilson homered for the Angels.
