Robinson Cano hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs and the New York Yankees won their third series in a row with a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.
Derek Jeter homered and drove in a pair of runs as the Yankees tagged Angels starter Scott Kazmir (0-1).
Cano and Jeter hit solo home runs in the second and third innings, respectively, to put the Yankees on top 2-1, before Cano hit a two-run homer in the fifth.
Phil Hughes (1-0) got the win, giving up two runs on three hits along with five walks and six strikeouts over five innings.
Former Yankee Hideki Matsui gave the Angels a 1-0 lead with a homer in the top of the second. In the fourth inning, Curtis Granderson tripled in a run and Jeter had an RBI double to make it 4-1.
Kazmir allowed six runs on eight hits in four-plus innings to take the loss.
