Nick Swisher hit a three-run homer and Alex Rodriguez had a pair of hits as the New York Yankees crushed the archrival Boston Red Sox, 10-3, on Friday.
Seven different players recorded at least one RBI for the Yankees, who have won five straight and have taken three of four against the Red Sox so far this season.
Boston starter Josh Beckett cruised through the first two innings, striking out five of the first six batters he faced. He picked up his seventh punchout for the second out in the fourth but Swisher then followed with his blast to give New York the early edge.
Beckett came unglued in the sixth, allowing a leadoff double to Rodriguez before hitting Robinson Cano with a pitch. The runners advanced on a passed ball and Brett Gardner was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Beckett (1-1) then walked Francisco Cervelli, allowed a single to Randy Winn, hit Derek Jeter with a pitch and yielded back-to-back RBI singles to Marcus Thames and Mark Teixeira.
Phil Hughes continued his dominating season for the Yankees, striking out seven while surrendering two runs and seven hits in seven innings to push his record to 4-0.
David Ortiz drove in two runs for the Red Sox, who had their four-game winning streak snapped.
